Ok so I will try to make this quick, short, and painless but the past 2 and a half days has been ABSURD.
Monday, 8/3-Jennica and I had a SERIOUS dinner fiasco. So, a lot of our group wanted to eat off campus and when we realized that we would be alone, we agreed only to find out from the Ghanaians helping with our orientation that the restaurant they chose was sub-par and would serve the same food we get for free on campus. With that in mind we changed our decision. Then, come dinnertime, the people going off campus decided to change their location to somewhere with pizza and burgers but it was too late for us to change. So, 6:30 comes around and we get down to the van we always take to dinner. The other 2 girls who were staying on campus got in the other van and when we attempted to consilidate, our driver demanded we "SIT DOWN!" It was terribly scary. Then we got to dinner to find our Ghanaian comrades LEAVING, asking us why we didn't go off campus, and saying they waited for us...oh ok. So it ended up being us, the 2 other girls, and the 2 van drivers sitting at a table for 23...cool. Oh and there was no water in our dorm...great.
Tuesday, 8/4-Still no water but we got our stipend and therefore a bank trip was neccesary. When I finished my deposit at the counter I asked the teller for change for a 20 bill...only to be told the bank only has 20s? Thank? She told me she could make change for 1 bills. I gave her one. She then goes "Oh, this is the same thing..." while holding up a coin version of the 1 bill. Ugh. So who puts smaller bills in circulation?? Nonsense. THERE ARE LOTUSES ON HIS CAMPUS IN FRONT OF THE LIBRARY!! I took pictures. Oh! Last night Jennica and I joined in for 2 rounds of Kings. We drank juice and water though...sorry. It was fun though! I liked it. But I know a little too much about some of the people on this trip...
Today, 8/5-STILL NO WATER. The bathrooms are gross. Bucket showers are stupid. The entire building smells. It's terrible. Went to the Post Office so Jennica could mail some stuff...and the women asked her if she was Black or White............??????? It was quite a mess and very confusing.
A hot mess. At least there were hella plantains at lunch today!!! Orientation ends Thursday and we are off to Cape Coast to do a canopy walk (dnghfhgkghlhgl) and see the slave castles on Friday...wish us luck!
Also, David A, Jenn needs your phone number so she can call you so message it to me, please!
And I will try to buy minutes and phone people asap!
Much love!
